Nearly all of the armatures used in sculpture are lost in the removal of the model and/or in the mold making and casting process. Because of this, we offer our 24" removable figure armature that can be removed from a backiron; and then that backiron and base can be re-used in future modeling.
This armature is particularly appropriate for use in the free-form style of modeling and fabric sculpture. It can very easily be bent and shaped by the sculptor into whatever position is desired, then attached to a backiron.
Constructed from non-staining, pliable aluminum wire.
Also available in the smaller 12" figure armature and 18" figure armature.
If using moist (ceramic/pottery) clay, please note, the armature cannot be put in a kiln during firing. The clay will shrink but the armature will not, resulting in cracking and/or breakage. We suggest using a wet and twisted newspaper armature as the paper will burn off during firing; or a wax armature as the wax will melt during firing.
