Figure Armature - 24"
Figure Armature - 24"
Our 24" aluminum wire armature is a necessity when sculpting moist clay, Plastilina, and other sculpting material which does not support itself. Usually that occurs if you are modeling figures over 5 lbs. in weight.
Made from non-staining, non-corrosive, pliable aluminum wire with a backiron made of sturdy steel, our armature is strong and proportionally correct. The backiron is fully adjustable and can be positioned for standing, kneeling, and sitting. Using a cast iron flange and heavy duty bolt for support, the armature is securely attached to its melamine base. A crossbeam has been added between the backiron and armature to assist supporting the weight of the clay.
The additional wrapping wire around the legs and arms allows for greater adhesion of clay to those areas.
If using moist (ceramic/pottery) clay, please note, the armature cannot be put in a kiln during firing. The clay will shrink but the wire will not, resulting in cracking and/or breakage. We suggest using a wet and twisted newspaper armature as the paper will burn off during firing; or a wax armature as the wax will melt during firing.
